Gamma Interpharm enters Cambodia, expands Sri Lanka’s pharmaceutical export footprint
Gamma Interpharm Ltd. has commenced exports of Sri Lankan-manufactured pharmaceuticals to Cambodia, marking a key milestone in its six-decade journey and strengthening the country’s pharmaceutical manufacturing presence in regional markets. The company launched its first pharmaceutical exports to Cambodia on 14 August 2026 at its manufacturing facility, in the presence of stakeholders and employees. Gamma Interpharm said the development makes it the first truly Sri Lankan pharmaceutical manufacturing company to export pharmaceuticals to Cambodia. The entry into Cambodia forms part of Gamma Interpharm’s broader strategy to expand its international footprint and establish locally manufactured pharmaceutical products in overseas markets. With a heritage shaped by associations with Warner Lambert Inc. and Pfizer Inc., USA, Gamma Interpharm has evolved over six decades as a Sri Lankan pharmaceutical manufacturer, progressively strengthening its manufacturing, quality assurance and analytical capabilities.
The company said the latest export milestone was driven by the vision and leadership of Chairman Kalana Hewamallika, who has focused on creating opportunities for Sri Lankan-manufactured pharmaceuticals in international markets. The company’s management and employees have also played a key role in supporting its international expansion strategy. Gamma Interpharm is equipped with modern pharmaceutical manufacturing technology and advanced analytical capabilities, supported by a skilled workforce with international exposure. Continuous investments in technology, training and global best practices have enabled the company to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities and position itself to meet international quality requirements. Its manufacturing facility operates in compliance with World Health Organization guidelines and with approval from Sri Lanka’s National Medicines Regulatory Authority. Gamma Interpharm said its operations maintain a strong focus on the quality, safety and efficacy of its pharmaceutical products. The company views its entry into Cambodia as an important step towards building a stronger regional presence while demonstrating the potential of Sri Lanka’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector to compete in international markets. The expansion is also aligned with Gamma Interpharm’s vision, “Seeking Excellence in contributing towards Quality Healthcare for All,” reflecting its objective of making quality pharmaceutical products accessible beyond Sri Lanka. Gamma Interpharm is now preparing for further regional expansion, with plans underway to introduce its Sri Lankan-manufactured pharmaceuticals to Vietnam and the Philippines. The company said the expansion into Cambodia, followed by its planned entry into additional Asian markets, would support its long-term objective of developing a globally recognised Sri Lankan pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprise while contributing to the growth of the country’s pharmaceutical export sector.
