The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau is reinforcing its commitment to promoting Sri Lanka as a distinctive global tourism destination through its involvement in Wellness in Wetlands 2026, including a Welcome and Appreciation Dinner hosted at Waters Edge Hotel, Battaramulla, on 11th October 2026.
The initiative highlights the growing importance of wellness tourism as a high-value segment that can diversify Sri Lanka’s tourism offering, attract experience-seeking international travelers and strengthen the country’s position in the global tourism marketplace.

Sri Lanka possesses a unique combination of natural beauty, biodiversity, cultural heritage, traditional wellness practices and renowned hospitality. These strengths provide a valuable foundation for developing wellness experiences that go beyond conventional holidays, offering visitors opportunities to relax, rejuvenate, reconnect with nature and discover the island’s cultural traditions.

The Bureau’s involvement reflects the importance of promoting Sri Lanka not merely as a destination for sightseeing, but as a place where nature, culture and well-being come together. Wellness tourism creates opportunities to develop nature-based retreats, authentic cultural experiences and responsible tourism products that appeal to travelers seeking quality, meaningful and restorative experiences.
“Wellness in Wetlands 2026”, the 2nd International Conference on Wetlands, Wisdom and Well-being, holds in Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte from 9 to 12 October 2026, bringing together approximately 100 national and international participants to explore the connections between environmental sustainability, mental well-being and responsible tourism.

The event was attended by senior officials representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, underscoring the importance of inter-institutional collaboration in positioning Sri Lanka as a leading global destination for wellness tourism.
The Welcome and Appreciation Dinner provides an opportunity to welcome international delegates, recognize the contributions of experts and partners, and strengthen international relationships that can support Sri Lanka’s tourism promotion objectives. By engaging with an international audience interested in wellness, environmental sustainability and traditional knowledge, the Bureau can help create greater awareness of the country’s potential in this evolving tourism segment.

Wellness tourism also offers opportunities to support local communities, encourage sustainable tourism practices and promote experiences beyond established tourist destinations. Protecting natural environments and respecting cultural traditions will remain essential to developing a credible and sustainable wellness tourism identity.
By positioning wellness as an integral part of Sri Lanka’s tourism identity, the country has an opportunity to strengthen its global appeal and offer travelers something truly distinctive – a destination where natural beauty, cultural wisdom and hospitality combine to create meaningful experiences of well-being.
