Sri Lankan industries are being encouraged to adopt advanced condition monitoring technologies to identify equipment problems before they develop into costly failures, as global technology company FLIR and its local partner Marlbo Trading Company strengthen their collaboration.
The companies recently brought together industry professionals at a technical seminar held on August 20 at Taj Samudra, Colombo, highlighting how thermal and acoustic imaging can help businesses reduce unplanned downtime, improve energy efficiency and achieve measurable savings.
The seminar, organised by Marlbo under the theme “Condition Monitoring Using Thermography and Acoustic Imaging for Measurable ROI,” focused on the growing need for proactive and predictive maintenance as industries place greater emphasis on equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
The FLIR delegation comprised Bhaskar Lala, Sales Director – Instrumentation, FLIR India, and David Gambarte, APAC Condition Monitoring Specialist, Teledyne FLIR. Their visit provided an opportunity to share technical expertise and introduce Sri Lankan industry professionals to the latest developments in condition monitoring and diagnostic technologies.
A key focus of the seminar was the use of thermal imaging to detect abnormal heat patterns associated with electrical and mechanical problems before they result in equipment failure. Acoustic imaging, meanwhile, can identify issues that may not be visible or audible during routine inspections.
The technologies can be particularly valuable in compressed air systems, where undetected leaks can result in significant energy losses and higher operating costs.
With energy efficiency becoming an increasingly important consideration for Sri Lankan industries, acoustic imaging provides a fast and effective way to locate compressed air leaks and identify potential savings, enabling companies to improve system efficiency while reducing unnecessary energy consumption.
Sharing their expertise at the seminar, Lala and Gambarte highlighted practical applications of FLIR’s thermography and acoustic imaging solutions, while Shevon Liyanage, Engineer – Measuring Instruments, Marlbo Trading Company, provided insights into the application of condition monitoring technologies in the Sri Lankan industrial environment.
The initiative comes at a time when businesses are increasingly looking beyond traditional reactive maintenance towards predictive approaches that can extend equipment life, improve workplace safety and reduce maintenance costs.
