SLIIT Recognised in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, Strengthening Its Position as the Leading Non-State University
The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026 recognised the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) in, as the leading non-state higher education institution in Sri Lanka. The recognition reflects SLIIT’s strengthening academic reputation and institutional performance.
Commenting on the achievement, Prof. Lalith Gamage, Managing Director of SLIIT, stated, “SLIIT ranks as Sri Lanka’s premier non-state higher education provider for the second consecutive year, a recognition of our extraordinary success,” said Prof. Lalith Gamage, Managing Director, SLIIT. “The 2026 ranking is a measure of the quality of teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook that SLIIT offers its students. SLIIT operates on the principle that universities are positive drivers of progress and change. The ranking demonstrates that SLIIT is in fact succeeding in shaping the impact and future of higher education.” In the World University Rankings by Subject 2026, SLIIT recorded standout achievements in both Computer Science and in Engineering, among top positions locally while earning global recognition.
In Computer Science, SLIIT ranks No. 1 among non-state universities in Sri Lanka, is in 2nd place among all Sri Lankan universities, and ranks in the 1000+ band globally. In Engineering, SLIIT ranks No. 1 among non-state universities in Sri Lanka, is a joint 2nd place holder among all Sri Lankan universities, and ranks in the 1250+ band globally. The categories are evaluated using international benchmarks that consider factors including industry relevance and collaboration.
